An online celebration of the life and work of Neil Miller Gunn, one of Scotland’s most distinguished twentieth-century novelists and a leading figure of the Scottish Literary Renaissance. Light in the North presents essays, reflections, visual art and archival material on Gunn’s fiction and philosophy. The 2024 programme focused on his 1948 novel The Shadow, accompanied by contributions from writers and scholars including Dairmid Gunn, Tom Hubbard and Kirsty Gunn. The site is coordinated by Merran Gunn and aims to encourage conversation about and creative response to Gunn’s work.
